New book to explore the creation of John Lennon’s Imagine album

A new hardback book documenting the creation of John Lennon's landmark 1971 album Imagine is to be published on 9 October 2018. The book is officially titled Imagine, although the front cover and spine both display the words "Imagine John Yoko". The cover also states: "With contributions from the people who were there". The deluxe 320-page hardcover book will be published by Grand Central Publishing, and is priced at $50. A newly-remixed version of the Imagine album is also thought to be due out this year, along with a reissue of the Imagine film. More information is expected soon. Here's

Limited edition Yellow Submarine picture disc single to be released

The Beatles are to release a picture disc version of their 1966 single Yellow Submarine/Eleanor Rigby. The limited edition 7" single will be housed in a die-cut picture sleeve, and will be released by Universal Music and Apple Corps on Friday 6 July 2018. The rear of the sleeve contains a 2015 copyright notice, suggesting that this single contains remixes of the songs originally released on that year's reissue of the 1 compilation. Yellow Submarine/Eleanor Rigby was originally released in the United Kingdom on 5 August 1966, and three days later in the US. The two songs also appeared on

Sir Paul McCartney has been made a Companion of Honour for services to music. The former Beatle, 75, received the award from the Queen on 4 May 2018, during a ceremony held at Buckingham Palace in London. He was accompanied by his wife Nancy Shevell. George Harrison’s estate announces new label HariSongs

The George Harrison estate has launched a new music label, HariSongs, to promote Indian classical music. The first two releases feature Harrison's friend, teacher and collaborator Ravi Shankar. The label is launched in partnership with Craft Recordings, and will issue recordings from the Harrison archives. The first two releases, available to stream and download from 27 April are reissues: In Concert 1972 by Shankar and sarodya player Ali Akbar Khan; and Chants Of India by Ravi Shankar, produced by Harrison and first released in 1997. New video for Ringo Starr’s Give More Love

A new video for Ringo Starr's song Give More Love has been released. The promo clip shows Starr and his band performing the song, as well as fan-submitted photos. Give More Love is the title track of Starr's 19th studio album, released on 15 September 2017. Four Paul McCartney albums to get CD/vinyl reissues

Four of Paul McCartney's post-Beatles albums are to be reissued on CD and vinyl on 18 May. The albums are Thrillington (1977), Wings Greatest (1978), Chaos And Creation In The Backyard (2005), and New (2013). The standard versions will be single digipak CDs, and 180 gram black vinyl editions with digital download cards. There will also be limited edition coloured vinyl pressings, each with a 12x12" insert and download card. New will come in pink vinyl, Chaos And Creation will be gold, while Wings Greatest will be blue, and Thrillington will be marbled red. All vinyl versions will include digital

Museum of Liverpool to host Lennon and Ono exhibition Double Fantasy

The Museum of Liverpool is to host an exhibition on John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Double Fantasy – John & Yoko will be free to enter, and will run from 18 May 2018 to 22 April 2019. John Lennon’s Monkey Bike is auctioned for £56,000

John Lennon's Honda Monkey Bike motorcycle has sold for £56,250. The 1969 Honda Z50A Monkey Bike was auctioned at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull, England, by H&H Classics. It was the highest price paid at auction for this type of motorbike, and far exceeded the estimated £20,000-40,000. With the buyers’ premium of 12.5%, the total cost was lifted to £63,281. Lennon used the motorbike on his Tittenhurst Park estate, at which he lived between 1969 and 1971. He was photographed on the bike with his eldest son Julian. Ringo Starr is to be knighted in the Queen's 2018 New Year's honours list, it has been announced. It’s great! It’s an honour and a pleasure to be considered and acknowledged for my music and my charity work, both of which I love. Peace and love. Ringo Ringo Starr The 77-year-old drummer and singer will become Sir Richard Starkey for services to music, after being made a Knight Bachelor. In 1965 Starr, along with the other Beatles, had been made an MBE. Huge congrats Sir Ringo! Sir Richard Starkey has a nice ring to it. Best drummer best pal! X

The Beatles announce Christmas fan club box set and Sgt Pepper picture disc

The Beatles' festive fan club recordings are to be reissued on coloured vinyl in a forthcoming box set, to be released on 15 December 2017. The band recorded messages for their fan club each year from 1963 to 1969. They were sent to members as flexi discs each December. The box set collates the recordings on individual vinyl discs for the first time, along with a 16-page booklet featuring recording information and reproductions of the fan club newsletters which accompanied the original flexi discs. Paul McCartney reveals photo inspiration for Lady Madonna

Paul McCartney has revealed a source of inspiration behind The Beatles' song Lady Madonna. McCartney told National Geographic's editor-in-chief Susan Goldberg that the 1968 hit was partly inspired by a photograph of a Malayo-Polynesian woman surrounded by three small children.
