Ringo Starr is to be knighted in the Queen's 2018 New Year's honours list, it has been announced. It’s great! It’s an honour and a pleasure to be considered and acknowledged for my music and my charity work, both of which I love. Peace and love. Ringo Ringo Starr The 77-year-old drummer and singer will become Sir Richard Starkey for services to music, after being made a Knight Bachelor. In 1965 Starr, along with the other Beatles, had been made an MBE. Huge congrats Sir Ringo! Sir Richard Starkey has a nice ring to it. Best drummer best pal! X

The Beatles announce Christmas fan club box set and Sgt Pepper picture disc

The Beatles' festive fan club recordings are to be reissued on coloured vinyl in a forthcoming box set, to be released on 15 December 2017. The band recorded messages for their fan club each year from 1963 to 1969. They were sent to members as flexi discs each December. The box set collates the recordings on individual vinyl discs for the first time, along with a 16-page booklet featuring recording information and reproductions of the fan club newsletters which accompanied the original flexi discs. Paul McCartney reveals photo inspiration for Lady Madonna

Paul McCartney has revealed a source of inspiration behind The Beatles' song Lady Madonna. McCartney told National Geographic's editor-in-chief Susan Goldberg that the 1968 hit was partly inspired by a photograph of a Malayo-Polynesian woman surrounded by three small children. It was taken by photographer Howard Sochurek, and appeared in an article titled American Special Forces in Action in Viet Nam, in National Geographic's January 1965 issue. He was given the award for services to music, 20 years after he was knighted by the Queen, and two days before his 75th birthday. The Beatles have announced the 50th anniversary edition of their 1967 album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The landmark album is to be reissued on 26 May 2017 on four formats: single CD; double CD; double vinyl; and a super deluxe edition containing four CDs, a DVD, a Blu-ray disc, posters and inserts, in a replica EMI tape box with a slipcase. Ringo Starr has announced a new collaboration with Paul McCartney. It marks the first time the two former Beatles have reunited in the studio since McCartney appeared on Starr's 2010 album Y Not. McCartney played bass guitar on the song Peace Dream, and sang on Walk With You. The new collaboration is believed to be for Starr's forthcoming album, the follow-up to 2015's Postcards From Paradise. Paul McCartney sues Sony over Beatles song rights

Paul McCartney has filed a lawsuit against Sony/ATV over the rights to songs by The Beatles. The complaint was filed in the Southern District of New York. The musician hopes to regain ownership of songs co-written with John Lennon. In 1969, Lennon and McCartney lost ownership of their publishing when Northern Songs was bought by ATV in 1969. In 1985 Michael Jackson bought ATV Music for $47.5 million, beating a joint bid by McCartney and Yoko Ono. Beatles electronics guru Magic Alex dies

Magic Alex, one of the most colourful and mysteryious characters in the Beatles' story, has died at the age of 74. Born Yanni ('John') Alexis Mardas, he became a close friend of The Beatles in the mid 1960s, eventually becoming head of Apple Electronics in London. In 1965 Mardas exhibited his Kinetic Light Sculptures at London's Indica Gallery, and the following year met John Lennon. The pair formed a close friendship, and Lennon nicknamed him Magic Alex. Mardas made a number of electronic devices which amused Lennon and the other Beatles, and invented and researched a number of other concepts

Beatles poster artist Tony Booth dies

Tony Booth, who painted many posters advertising shows by The Beatles and other Merseybeat bands, has died at the age of 83. He was born Anthony Booth in June 1933, and after leaving school trained as a commercial artist. His first job was at a sign writing and poster company. In the late 1950s, Booth hand-painted publicity posters for events at Liverpool's Cavern Club, which had opened in January 1957 as a jazz and blues venue. Allan Williams, The Beatles' first manager, has died at the age of 86. Williams was the owner of the Jacaranda coffee bar and music venue, where The Beatles played and socialised in their early days. Williams became their booking agent, getting them a number of gigs in Liverpool and their first residency in Hamburg, Germany. In the summer of 1960 Williams arranged for The Beatles to perform at the Indra club in Hamburg.
